Origem do nome
Há diversas teorias sobre sua origem, mas acredita-se que seja pré-histórica. Mais precisamente, quando o homem aprendeu a amarrar fibras para se agasalhar e também criar objetos.
Uma das teorias é de que a palavra é derivada de “migramah”, que significa franja. Os tecelões árabes as confeccionavam para serem utilizadas em camelos e cavalos no século XIII, para manter moscas afastadas desses animais.
